Established in 2013 and funded by a Clean Communities Grant, the Jersey City Mural Arts Program (JCMAP) is a flagship initiative of the Mayor’s Office dedicated to revitalizing public spaces with murals that reflect the city’s unique character. By connecting local, national, and international artists with property owners, developers, community groups, and schools, JCMAP fosters collaboration and transforms walls into meaningful works of art.
These murals do more than beautify—they tell Jersey City’s stories, celebrate its diversity, and create spaces that inspire civic pride. They also serve as catalysts for graffiti prevention, placemaking, and cultural preservation, turning blank walls into landmarks of identity and expression.
Over the years, JCMAP has become a driving force for artistic innovation and community engagement, making Jersey City a vibrant hub for creativity and cultural exchange.
